The firm continues to expand to provide superior architectural, planning and interior design services to an increasing list of clients, while maintaining the same philosophy of principal involvement upon which the firm was founded.

Firm Background

Heiser and Associates, Inc. is a professional corporation composed of professional architects, engineers and technical staff engaged in the practice of architecture, planning and construction management.  Bruce E. Heiser established the firm in 1950 in California.  Its main offices arelocated in San Rafael, California.

Our firm is known for producing creative designs while always keeping the client's requirements and confidence as the primary goal.  The firm has completed more than 400 projects including many schools, hospitals and other public facilities.  Our area of specialization is design and construction of school facilities which represents 90% of our work.  The balance is divided between commercial and residential design, including the renovation of nationally recognized historic buildings.  Our greatest emphasis is on new school facilities and school renovations and modernizations.

Kirk E. Heiser joined Bruce E. Heiser & Associates in 1971 as part of the production staff and, in 1976, became a Partner.  With the retirement of Bruce Heiser in 1977, Kirk Heiser became President of the company and its principal stockholder in 1981.

Richard L. Heglund, Architect has been associated with Heiser & Associates, Inc. since 1977 and in 1985 became the secondary stockholder, heading an efficiently managed staff of twelve to eighteen qualified personnel.  The structure of the firm has enabled the firm to serve its Clients as acoordinated team, drawing on the specialized expertise and experience of each member of the team.

Planning & Design Philosophy

To quote the Dept. Education publication "It's Elementary, studies indicate that students are more engaged and receptive to learning when you create an environment conducive to learning by establishing a school setting that is safe and welcoming with physical facilities that support the growth of all
students."

It is our belief that the greatest design solutions are often sparked by the most stringent functional constraints and budget limitations, a variation of the ideal of "Form following Function."  Before beginning any project we clearly define the program and identify priorities.  In this way, our Clients are assured a creative learning environment unique to their particular requirements.
